Food Security and Urban Agronomy in Urban Phoenix - Ignite Phoenix presentation by Nicholas DiBiase from Hepnova

In this presentation at Ignite Phoenix 4 on 06-16-2009, Nicholas DiBiase from Hepnova gives a brisk, entertaining overview of urban food security, food supply chain issues, and how the PPG's simple + effective approaches to urban food production can solve some of those problems. PPG gets a big shout-out toward the end -- thanks to all the PPG activists who inspired the talk! Especially Ryan and Ericka Cero-Wood, whose home tour in June provided much of the material.

Hello Susan,
Thanks so much for the kind words! I wasn't very nervous for the presentation; the atmosphere was pretty relaxed.
The Ignite crowd was awesome and big - probably 500 people or so. The next one is in November and it's going to rock -- hope to see you there!

Do my 6 1/2 week old Amricaunas still need a heat lamp at night if they are outside? I have moved them to a new location and I'm not sure if the extesion cord goes that far, but I will figure something out if they need heat. Thanks.

Hi David - sorry it too so long to get back to you - the grass has died and we think it was a combination of acidic chicken poop, not enough water and not enough direct sun. The chickens actually seem to like it better without the grass being gree...

Right on. It took just over a month for that one to grow. So, if it grows at the same pace this time, the next one will be ready sometime around the first week of December.

I just watched this online, www.greenthefilm.com. It is a free download, free to screen when ever and where ever possible. Lets just say I am pretty moved by this simple yet direct film.

Put me down as a "maybe". I don't care for the taste of the milk. But I do love me some goat cheese!
