Hi there, Ken has two types. One is more course. The courser compost reminds me of bark-a-mulch and I bought a truck load of it. He stuck his hand in the huge pile and opened up a 90 degree hole full of micro-organism cobwebs. It was beautiful. I'...

I usually pick up our girls' feeder at night, because I noticed coackroaches in it, eating away the feed, when I leave it out at night. So that might be another culprit depleting your stock of feed.

I agree with the other comments. Don't allow 24 access unless wild birds/animals can't get to it. They're eating you out of house and home. 50 lbs should last you -at least- 3 weeks with 10 birds. Get an automatic programmable dog feeder or feed t...

I suspect you have rodents and many dozens of wild birds feasting on a majority of your feed. I feel that 24 hour access is best if you can keep the wild animals from eating most of the feed. I have ten free-range laying hens. A 50 pound bag of fe...

Hi, Susan
I miss my garden this year. I have to plant it again, because I lived in new house now and I have to make everything again. But I will.
Again you have nice pictures.

Thanks for your concern. We had to sell our house but it ends up the guy buying it is an investor and said he'd rent it back to us until we find something else. I was trying to rehome them because I thought we were moving and didn't want to have to try to move them when I wasn't sure where we were going. Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know how it pans out.
Hope you're doing well.

Hi Susan,
How are your chickens holding up? So far so good here, they have cut back on laying unfortunately, I only get 1 to 2 eggs a day, and they are usually brown eggs from my RIR & Sex Link.
The bunny that lives with my chickens has suddenly grown some freaky long teeth....I had to trim them with wire cutters, not a pleasant task....I learned how from the internet. Turns out it is NOT ok to feed the bunny hen food, the growth hormones or something in it plus all the protein has caused this rabbits teeth to grow at an alarming rate! So lesson learned, don't listen to teenage clerk warking at Pratt's....
Well I hope all is well with you,
Stay cool as you can!

Hi Susan,

My chicks are doing pretty good - there have been days I go out there and they have been panting and wheezing - since I discovered that, I have been watching them more closely. I bought a fan to blow around in there, and I had another refrigerator in the garage that we plugged in so I could keep jugs and 2 liter bottles of water frozen - so I always have at least 2 ice bottle out there for them, and now they seem to be coping well - they really stay close to the cool ice ... I too also bought a mister system at lowes, the other day, so I'm hopeful that will help a lot to keep it even cooler.

I only really wanted 3 hens, but I 'thought' I really wanted some bantams - I wasn't thinking much about how very small they really are - those eggs are going to be tiny! They are cute though - so since I didn't know if they would be male or female, I got 3 bantams, AND and 1 Americauna (CUTE chicken - I named mine Miss America) and one barred rock.... then... I recently bought a full grown white leghorn that is already laying - I was so anxious for the eggs.... but I fear that was a mistake as she is not very nice to my chicks who are not full size yet, but getting there. It is fun to have eggs though - she has laid 2 so far in her first week. My pullets actually look close to being full grown, but my math of when I got them tells me they will be full grown and ready to lay in October - so still a few months. I suspect that 2 of my bantams may be roosters! They are getting kindof 'mean' and making loud noises... As I'm really not supposed to have mine here, I want them to keep down the noise!!! :)

Upload photos of the changes in your coop. I always like to see what other's have done.

wow, sounds nice! Yeah, I'm always amazed at how cool it is after i wet down that bamboo screen. How much were the big blocks of ice? I throw big bowls in there....they like to stand on them. This morning I put 1/2 a watermelon in there, kind of chopped up the flesh a little, and when I came home all that was left was the rind....they must have liked it!
Good luck with everything!

I guess it depends on the size of your fruit trees. I planted dwarf trees and put scalloped edgers (scalloped side down, I hate the scallops) in a 4' sq. then put 6" x 12" pavers around the outside of those allowing my husband to mow right up to t...
