I've been past, but haven't stopped. Two tires appeared in the alley behind my house this morning. We saw the truck stop and unload stuff, whats with that? Thought you might be interested in the tires. Lis

Profile Information

About Me:
I am even shyer online than in person, so writing this is not easy! I own a 50 year old house in Tempe, about a mile from ASU, not irrigated. In front, have removed Bermuda, mostly, and have gravel, fruit trees, old roses and raised beds with mixed vegs, herbs, and flowers. This past winter, wrapped the front, south facing, with greenhouse film that covered the raised beds and front porch. Had greenhouse and passive solar heating. It worked really well, but looked awful (one friend kept muttering about Hazmat abatement) Just got 4 Americana chicks 6 weeks ago, hopefully all pullets. The backyard is a disaster, dead grass, dirt, and dog manure.

MinHaven update

The goats, 2 Nigerian Dwarf Does, have been here a month this week. They are looking much better, hooves trimmed, brushed daily, wormed, and lots of good food. They are also feeling better, judging from the bucking, running, and playing I've been seeing lately. Milking is going better too. The ducks, 3 Muscovys hopefully 1 male and 2 females, are two months old this week. They are turning out to be top of the pecking order, even over the goats. The first time they helped me milk, they went from… Continue

We are taking down our homemade aquaponics system. It did well, but we're getting our house ready to move. We have Eco 1287 and Eco 185 pumps both were used for about 6 months. We have kiddie pools we made into grow beds. We have a doughboy pool for the fishes. We also have lots of pvc piping, elbows, tees, valves, and lava rock.

Dorian Gray Garden Syndrome

I am so discouraged with my garden experiment! Last year, at this time, my front beds were full of tomatoes, herbs, and flowers. I know I am sounding as sad and pathetic as my cilantro and parsley look, but no one even said they liked my sculpture! Of the snow pea seeds I planted, 7 came up, and last year had a 10 foot productive row. I need to find the inspiration to try some more, but... OK, I'm done, that was my Wa Wa Wa.

Lis, I just got a flyer from Valerie Roy (see her page) about a new garden project in our neighborhood. I know you have your hands full with your own amazing projects, but this one would be fun as a community project. It's just three blocks from you. I will join, if there is extra room, though I am most interested in that huge blank wall behind the space. Pat

Lisette, Thanks for the answer. I will help with grunt work at the garden, but probably not get a plot, unless they are begging for users, as I have a front garden which could use more attention. If I can, I would like to come. I have just a few committments which would take precedence, depending on when you gather. Let me know when it is. I would love to see your goats, too!

Lisette, the proposed garden is off 16th on Hardy. Salvation Army has a professionally designed landscape plan with both a meditation garden and a community garden planned. I erased this on prior message, sorry.

Dear Lisette, I couldn't remember your name, so I didn't add you to my email gardener's list. I have info on the proposed Salvation Army garden to be ready for planting about November 7. The officer in charge is Captain Stephanie Bridgeo. Her email is stephanie.bridgeo@usw.salvationarmy.org. She has no garden experience, so needs someone to help organize it. She proposes a meeting soon with garden volunteers, to be set up when people respond to the request for help. I might have the kind of sunflowers you want. Just plant all kinds of sunflowers, and don't pay attention to names. Thanks, Pat Konomos address. I
