Hi David - sorry it too so long to get back to you - the grass has died and we think it was a combination of acidic chicken poop, not enough water and not enough direct sun. The chickens actually seem to like it better without the grass being gree...

What a beautiful hen house and coop! That is definitely one to be proud of. I'm interested in knowing how your grass is doing. I'd like to put grass under my chicken run/coop, and I wonder if the chickens will eat, scratch, and dig it down to dirt...

About Me:
I enjoy growing veggies and would like to learn more about fruit trees. We currently have a 10' x 20' raised bed that I have been growing veggies in for two years, and are slowly working on creating a new garden for squash and other sprawlers. I enjoy fostering animals and currently have 2 dogs and 4 cats, although that varies depending on who finds me - kittens just seem to leap out everywhere :). My husband enjoys tinkering with things and the outdoors - he has really helped with building the beds and added a couple of rain barrels to help with water. We both enjoy the classes at the Guild and hope to have chickens soon.

Hello Julie,

Thanks so much for your interest in the Tour de Coops! We definitely could use a last-minute addition, as we've had a couple of drops. If you would, please send the following info to me at Nicholas [at] Hepnova (dot) com as soon as is convenient :

1) Street address of your coop
2) Phone and email contact information
3) Whether or not you have an HOA that we need to contact and if so, their contact info
4) Any special rules that you'd like visitors to follow when at your site
5) A brief description of how and why you became interested in urban farming and any anecdotes you'd like to provide about your coop / garden setup.

Thanks again, very much looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi Julie, thanks for the post. I have actually been thinking of doing an herbal class :o)
I wanted to include common herbs that can be used for cooking as well as for medicine! So many of the culinary herbs have such wonderful healing properties and are pretty easy to grow. I'll check and see what I can come up with. If you have any herbal questions, feel free to email me :o)

Hey Julie,

I just saw your comment on my class. I'm learning to follow discussions and such so I know when people leave comments. I'm headed to the extension office in the morning to pick up some publications. I thought I could print them from their website, but I guess not. If so, they can show me how to do that when I'm down there.

We need to talk about the hands on demonstration(s) with Doreen. We'll have to have it approved by the board and then put on the calendar.

See you soon,
Cheryl
p.s. can I compost bread and whole eggs? a friend brought them to me.

Thank you Judy. I had hoped to get over there last Saturday morning to take a look at what he has and decide if it is economical to get it that way. Can anyone share with me the texture of his compost? I currently get the stuff that is bagged in T...

thank you all for taking the time to share your wisdom. Rachel, I particularly need the reminder to study the land and plan accordingly. ohhh, so much to learn

A healthier attitude I guess. I thought that if I eliminated the grass stolons where the tree roots would take hold, I could eliminate one more source of the Bermuda invasion in the larger area. Thanks for the reminder

This is just amazing. Have you started using it yet, and if so, what do you think? You can do so many things - I swear you and your DH will be totally off the grid soon, if you're not already. :o)
