I love beets and so does my iguana. He gets the juice on his lips and looks like he's wearing sloppy lipstick--it's too funny! I also use the greens to make a green drink in the blender.

I think you have to be careful to say it's for "animal feed only" or something like that if you're not licensed to sell for people. It's a silly distinction, but from what I've seen other people do that's how they get around it. Judy

I would LOVE to be able to buy raw goats milk!!! Count me in as a customer! Judy

Cat's claw is easy to grow, and grows fast. Climbing fig is nice too but it's slow growing. I think either of those would be okay with mostly shade.

I went one year when they were auctioning off chickens, but the prices were astronomical--like over $50 per chicken. It was a fund raiser for Future Farmers of America, so I people didn't seem to mind but it was more than I could afford to spend.

Hi everyone, I want to plant a black sphinx date palm in my yard. I've been doing some research and it seems you have to start with an offshoot from a tree, rather than plant from seed. Does anyone know where I might be able to find/buy one? Any inf…

I just read about something called a dual flush kit. Has anyone ever used (or even heard of) this? It's a device that can be installed on a regular toilet, that has two ways of flushing--one way is very low water for "number one" and the other way i…

Hey Judy,
I don't think I am going to make it tonight---low energy and such. I hope to see you soon, though.

Love the naming scheme, I wanted to name all of ours hens after famous authors: Anais, Virginia etc....but our daughter insisted on Disney princesses & cartoon characters names instead (uggh)...she did decide to name one after herself, me & my mom so now we have: Ariel, Kai Lan, Daisy, Aurora, Bethie, Betty & Zoe. Aren't chickens a blast ! I just love them.

BTW, do you have anyone to watch over the "kids"? We'd be happy to check in on them. Let me know.

I'm so sorry to hear about that, funerals are such a downer and, of course, rainchecks are acceptable. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both. Have a safe trip and please don't try to "kill" Carlos anymore. There has been enough tragedy. (kidding) :-)

Hey Judith!! (hehe)
It was so much fun having you guys over on Monday. I love to go bike riding and so does Gabe so we'll have to include him next time (he felt bad that he was not able to play with us). And thanks again for the eggs. When can we do burritos?

Hi Judy - WOW! I really like the looks of your updated page.

I personally (could be wrong) think the main reason the book club fizzled is because of all the wonderful class and workshop offerings going on at the same time. I do not blame anyone one bit for preferring to attend hands-on learning sessions instead of a book discussion. I would have done the same given the choice.

Online discussions - there are many online book discussions - many on books dealing with sustainability so perhaps we could pull it off - even just the 2 of us. I have wanted to read Fast Food Nation but have not had the chance yet. I will do that during this break. Let's have a discussion right after I finish reading it?

We're all doing well here. Molly is settling into our routine. She is rambunctious, precocious, bright as sunshine, smart, curious and we love her to pieces. Five of the 7 pups have been adopted - 2 males are living in very nice foster homes. They are adorable and just like their mom so no clue why they haven't been adopted.

How are you and your crew doing? I see you've joined the Micro Livestock group - getting to know and care for your chickens :-D It's been chilly of late - have your doggies been wearing their lovely coats?

Happy Holidays to you and yours,

Lindy

This time of year, it's easy to drive around ABQ and find bagged leaves waiting for disposal by the city, at least that was the case a few years back. You only have another week or two to collect them before they're gone for another year ....

I really thought this was clever too! I would think that Craig's List would have many of these listed pretty cheap. I believe that they had 3 chickens, but this setup could handle quite a bit more, and it looks so darn cute!

She can dump out the bin in an area where she would like to create a new garden bed, preferably in a sunny location. Cover it with a black plastic bag or any other medium which will absorb the heat. Piling LOTS more leaves on top and saturating ever…
