Event Description

RSVPing for Part 1 in the series reserves your spot in all four parts of the series.

Designing a Vegetable Garden - Part 1 of 4 with Heather Welch
Saturdays 9:30 to 11:00 AM
7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1
Requested Donation: $10 each class ($40 for the series)

Learn all aspects of designing a productive vegetable garden in the low desert. This is a multi-part series that will guide you through the design process so that in fall you'll be ready to plant your first garden and be eating out of it shortly afterwards. Nothing tastes as good as homegrown food!

In Designing a Vegetable Garden: Part 1 we will be focusing on learning the steps for finding the ideal location for the garden plot. This basic site analysis will include recognizing the grade of the property and how this relates to water usage, microclimates and basic soil analysis. We will also go over basic tools for the beginning gardener.

Download Planting Calendar for part 3 of this series.

Hi Bryan - The first class is the only one you can actually RSVP on this site. So have them RSVP here and then come to the ones they need. Thanks for asking!

If someone I know is only interested in certain segments of this class, should they RSVP prior to the first class or wait until closer to the class they want to attend?
Doreen Pollack Comment by Doreen Pollack on July 3, 2009 at 3:46pm

Do my 6 1/2 week old Amricaunas still need a heat lamp at night if they are outside? I have moved them to a new location and I'm not sure if the extesion cord goes that far, but I will figure something out if they need heat. Thanks.

Right on. It took just over a month for that one to grow. So, if it grows at the same pace this time, the next one will be ready sometime around the first week of December.

I just watched this online, www.greenthefilm.com. It is a free download, free to screen when ever and where ever possible. Lets just say I am pretty moved by this simple yet direct film.
